On May 5, 2026, Professor Jin Siyan, French Director of the Confucius Institute of Artois and Coordinator of Intercultural Activities at Artois University, delivered a cultural lecture entitled “China’s Water Resources and the Three Gorges Dam” at the Monet Lecture Hall of the university. The event attracted more than thirty participants from both within and outside the university.
The lecture officially began at 5:00 p.m. Professor Jin opened the talk with the topic of “China’s food security,” emphasizing the crucial importance of water resources. She then focused on the significant role of the Three Gorges Dam and raised and thoroughly addressed three key questions:
- Is the safety of the Three Gorges Dam fully guaranteed?
- Will water storage and flood discharge at the Three Gorges Dam aggravate flooding upstream and downstream?
- What are the irreplaceable functions of the Three Gorges Project?
Professor Jin also briefly introduced the issue of resettlement in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. She further invited the audience to consider the question: “What would happen if all the water in the Three Gorges Reservoir were released?” Through this thought-provoking discussion, she illustrated from another perspective the significant impact of the Three Gorges Dam on the natural ecological environment.
During the interactive session, Professor Jin continued to engage with the audience and answered questions of common interest in detail.
The lecture concluded successfully at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
